A Grammatical Aside for Bands and Their Promoters

When promoting a band, do not combine a band name (singular noun) with the word are (third person plural). While a band is comprised of several members, its name refers to the collective whole, which is singular.

Examples:

Wrong: Radiohead are playing in Gloucester next month.
Right: Radiohead is playing in Gloucester next month.
Right: The members of Radiohead are Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway.

Let's use some examples from the world of business:

Best Buy are having a sale this weekend.
Walmart are an enormous corporation.

Don't those examples seem awkward? Yes, yes they do.
